It We woke up in the Janesville, WI Cracker Barrel parking lot. Today is planned to be a long drive to Minot, ND. We hit 1000miles around Madison, WI. Approximately 1/10 of our estimated miles are behind us. About 700 of those 1000 miles were logged yesterday.
Wisconsin looks very similar to Western NY - rolling hills of corn fields and dairy farms. Wide open interstates with very little traffic. Both produce excellent cheddar and ice cream.
About 7 miles south of the I-94/I-90 split in Tomah, Wisconsin are these huge rock outcroppings in the middle of the rolling farmland. We thought they looked pretty cool.
The two youngest children finished the road trip scavenger hunt this morning.
Today is blue-purple shirt day, ironic as we pass through Vikings country / Minneapolis later today.
Navigation - hybrid old school atlas and paper copy of The Next Exit, plus Google Maps on my phone. I cannot recommend The Next Exit highly enough! It is a must have for big road trips in the US. The combination of a paper atlas and the GPS works well for us. The paper maps is more helpful for going across several States whereas the GPS is better for finding a specific point of interest, campground, or navigating around a big city. The Next Exit tells me what is at the next exit on the interstate. It is super helpful for finding gasoline, meets areas, and places to sleep overnight.
😀😀😀❤️❤️❤️
2:05p on 7/14/18 we crossed the Mississippi River near Minneapolis-St. Paul.
This picture is for Annie as she likes the character Marshall from How I Met Your Mother and Marshall is from St. Cloud, MN.
Entering North Dakota at Fargo.
We plan to stop for the night somewhere near Minot. Tomorrow will likely be our crossing into Canada at which point I may be without signal for a few hours to a few days.
