There are some unique aspects to camping with a big family over several weeks. For example, I can buy toothbrush holders in six colors, great! But there are seven in our family (although one is not able to come this time, she may be able to next time, so we are keeping that in mind). I got soap boxes in four-sets. But they only had three colors. Obviously assigning a color to a person was simply not going to work! I prefer not to use our names on things for security reasons -- especially for minors. So, I decided upon symbols. One symbol per person.
My handy dandy vinyl cutter and heat press allowed us to label almost everything.
Bento style lunch box. One per person to stack perfectly in the cupboard or cooler and keeps sandwiches from being crushed in hiking packs. Each lid has a vinyl symbol.
Plates and cups. (Yes, we raided IKEA).
Microfiber quick dry bath towels
Washcloths
Now, trying to find seven different colors and keeping them consistent across all items is irrelevant and everyone has their own symbol!
I plan to mark the kitchen towels with a whisk or something similar so that the kitchen towels and cloths don't get mixed up with the cleaning or floor cloths.
Other improvements:
Table bed and tent bed. The Reflectix in the Windows does a great job blocking the sun!
This medicine cabinet drives me crazy. It pops open when we travel and everything winds up on the floor and down the sink. Ken came up with a fantastic hack for preserving my samity and the contents of the medicine cabinet. As you can see, I can get a little label happy with our camping gear.
He took the cabinet down and on both sides of it,he drilled holes through the mirror frame and through the cabinet frame.
Then he shortened a small bungee strap and now it can hook into both sides preventing the mirrored door from flying open while we are in transit.
Many times it is the "little" things that make the difference between a frustrating road trip and a fun-filled road trip.
