Day 16 - Kenai Penninsula and Resurrection Bay

Our overnight stay along the Parks Highway was beautiful, but a bit loud and very buggy.  Somehow we ended up with 50+ mosquitoes in the camper.  Not pleasant.  Mom and Dad fared better in their hard sided Imagine.  But, we made it to Anchorage and got the needed auto maintenance done.  Then, onward to Seward along the Seward Highway.  The view was breathtaking.  It was cool and cloudy with low clouds and hit and miss rain.  Blue mountain glaciers and the low tide of the bay were a sight to behold.

Each of the children had a particular animal they wanted to see.  Isaac wanted to see an otter.  Well, he has been able to watch the sea otters play from our campsite at South Resurrection RV Park.
Two otters playing in the bay.

The spaces are tight and the campground is "sardines", but the view is memorable, Isaac has enjoyed his otters, and we will fall asleep to the sounds of the bay waves sloshing against the rocks - a few yards from our camper.

Packed in tight

These are dry campsites.  No amenities or hookups.  There is a dumpster nearby and flush toilets* and $2/10min showers about 80yards away.  Nothing fancy, but enjoyable all in all.  Campers don't camp for "fancy", we camp for the adventure.

There is a nice paved walking/biking path which runs along the bay -- the boys were happily riding Amma & Papa's folding bikes on the path earlier.  Now, the girls are hiking Mt. Marathon with Ken, and the boys are hanging out with Amma and Papa in their -glamper-.  Seriously, they have a fantastic solar set up such that they can watch movies, use their microwave, brew coffee and charge iPads even though they are dry camping!  The boys have practically moved in with them!

*Flush toilets are somewhat rare in Yukon/Alaska.  The rest areas, parks, campgrounds, etc. generally have vault toilets - generally surprisingly clean too!
